Who ⚔ Yael & assorted nerds What ⚔ A dungeon run and other things When ⚔ After the party Where ⚔ Errywhere Content Warnings ⚔ Men with their tits out? Alcohol??? No correlation there surprisingly. nsfw i'm sorry mom
Of course. Wouldn't want old man Yael getting hurt, right? Even though he can keep up juuuust fine.
[ A playful jab in Yael's direction, but the last part is true. Yael is probably better than he gives himself credit for. ... And. Wow. Hector's pretty good at this! It's kind of amazing to hear him speak. ]
I'll be the best distraction I can be, but I'll try not to make your job too hard, Fai! Leave it to me!
[At least Kara is in a spirited mood... For what it's worth, he's cutting any unnecessary remarks to focus on the task at hand. Half of him expects Hector to Have A Talk with him about this later but he isn't going to focus on that right now, preparing his weapons for the fight ahead.]
Got it. Well, let's go.
[Into the fray they go! Yael's as shitty at video games as always, but at least he's begun to pick up the basics.]
[ He’s not worried about her skills, since she seems fine. Stretching out his arms, Fai takes a few steps forward and pushes at Yael’s back to propel him forward. ]
Now or never~
[ As they fight the dungeon boss, Fai will be incredibly attentive and careful in spacing out and timing his spells so that he doesn’t run out of SP right at the beginning of battle. ]
[ Hector nods, pleased, when he hears confirmation from everyone. Good. At least they're on the same page—
He sticks close to Fai, like he said he would, while keeping a careful eye on Kara's and Yael's HP. His peripheral attention is on high alert, just in case there happens to be surprise minions, but...so far, so good.
Don't mind him as he occasionally calls out when it looks like the boss might do something big. He just doesn't want the other two to get too hurt. ]
[ Kara is alert and sparingly using her single ability. She keeps punching -- perhaps a little too much, given that she probably requires more healing than Yael does -- and at one point, her health starts getting a little too low for comfort.
Still, she manages to keep getting up on her feet, and after a while...it looks like she might be angry at the boss. At least no one can say she gives up easily. ]
[It's all going according to plan until it isn't. The boss' attention remains on Kara when it uses a move it hadn't before, aiming to knock Kara clear across the room with its massive fist. As low as her HP is, it might just kill her.]
Hey—!
[So Yael thrusts her aside and takes the blow instead. Sent hurtling into a nearby column, he crumples to the floor with just enough HP left to survive.]
[ Ah... Just like that, the battle takes a turn for the worse. He sincerely hopes that Yael turned off his pain sensors.
Fai knows better than to just step right out into the fray, so he instead sends out a spell to hit the boss and momentarily distract it before it can attack Yael and kill him. Hopefully Hector has a chance to get a heal on him in before things get even worse. ]
Much to his dismay, Hector watches with his own eyes as Yael takes the blow for Kara. He's been good about keeping her up, learning the boss's attack rhythm, pressing his one button at the optimal time. And he's so optimistic that they can get through this as planned... ]
Shit!
[ Yael goes sailing to the opposite side of the room, away from the spellcasters and out of range of Hector's healing, Hector can't help but yell.
Luckily, Fai's blast is good enough distraction, so without much word or warning, Hector leaps out from behind his cover to cut straight across the battlefield, past the boss's feet, spamming his heal on Yael. ]
Get up!
[ He's going to try and keep running in that direction, if he can. Hopefully he doesn't catch too much of the boss's attention. ]
[ Hm. She fucked up. Haha, she fucked up so badly it's laughable. She shoves down the immediate sensation to run and hide, because now, they're down one front liner, one who took a blow for her.
(Oh, she hates that.)
Anyway, she channels her absolute fury onto the boss itself – fury over what, exactly, she's not sure – and she quietly pulls back her fist for a Rapid Attack, pelting it with a large number of hits. ]
[And Hector's yelling at him? Yael fully expects to "die," in whatever capacity he can in a video game... when a certain busybody comes bursting into his field of view instead.]
...You idiot.
[Don't tell me you'd act this way offline too.
The pain rapidly cedes and Yael springs back to his feet, throwing everything he has into felling the boss alongside Kara before it can sink its fists into Hector. Yael succeeds with a shred of HP left, and with that, the boss crumples and fades away.
He casts a glare in Hector's direction before making a beeline for the final treasure room. Gee, everyone is in such a good mood this run.]
[ Phew. Hector's ready to leap out of the way for his life when the boss turns to look at him, but thankfully, Yael saves his "life."
He reacts not in the face of the glare. Instead, as Yael runs fastly away from him, he sends another healing spell towards him. For good measure. Don't trip on the way.
He falls in step beside Kara and Fai, and it should be clear by now that despite the lack of joviality on his face and in his mannerisms now, he's not in all that bad of a mood. He just took this, surprisingly, very seriously. ]
I think whatever we find will be worth it.
[ Actually, the experience itself was way more valuable. ]
[ And just like that, there's a smile on her face again. She glances at Hector and Yael, before she joins them in making her way into the treasure room, disposition bright and sunny like Fai's. Rancid vibes? Don't know her. ]
I think it'll be worth all our hard work. Let's see what we've got!
[Yeah, whatever. Friendship, yeehaw. Yael hurries on ahead and kicks open the final treasure chest to reveal a set of....................]
...Rings?
[Taking them out of the chest, Yael turns them over in his palm. Huh. They're silver bands with solid solid black stone running along the center of the band. He turns to offer everyone their "reward".]
[ Fai stares at the ring down in his palm once it’s offered to him before slipping it onto his finger. The color changes to something light and neutral. ]
[ Hector peers curiously at his ring. Fai's remark draws his attention to the one on the other man's finger, and a lopsided smile crosses his face at the sight. ]
Are these mood rings?
[ What kind of summer camp reward is this? It'll go great with his boyscout getup—
So he slips it on, the color betraying him and showing him to be a bit more tense than his smile wants to let on. Ah well. ]
[Thanks for testing them out, guinea pigs. Yael is just gonna slip his into his pocket and stare at the colors on Hector and Yael's fingers. Huh.]
There's something else in the chest too. A guide.
[Yael picks up the scrap of paper in the box and studies it before looking at Fai and Hector's rings. Neutral for Fai, stressed out for Hector... Curious. At least he doesn't remark on it and call the man out before flicking the guide back into the treasure chest and heading for the Chaos Gate at the back of the dungeon.]
Well, mission successful. "GG". If that's all, I'm leaving.
[ Fai immediately looks at the paper too, hoping the ring doesn't reveal too much, which then causes it to change colors on him that lean towards anxious. Fun.
But it fades quickly enough once he sees the color on Hector's ring, his own edging back to neutral. ]
Why? I think it's something you can say in front of us too.
[Of course. It couldn't be as simple as running a dungeon and peacing out. Yael keeps his sigh hidden beneath his breath and stops in his tracks, only turning enough to throw a glance at Fai over his shoulder.]
Did nobody ever teach you to mind your own business?
[Yael languidly lifts a hand to shoo Fai and Kara away. Go on! They'll be back as soon as Hector's done henpecking him.]
[ Hands on his hips, Hector just watches the exchange. And when it looks like it's okay for him to talk, he turns to look at Yael. ]
Look, I'm not angry with you, or anything. [ His tone does drop, mostly to keep themselves out of earshot, but also in a show of sincerity. ] I just don't get why you feel the need to jump in like that. The last thing you want to do when moving as a unit is play hero. That never ends well.
[The last place he expected to be harangued like this was in a goddamn video game, but here they are... At the same time, it's novel to incite an almost paternal anger, muted as it is. So novel is it that Yael snorts, but he isn't derisive about it, loosely folding his arms over his chest.]
If it wasn't me, it would've been one of you.
[I don't want to be the one who fails to help their ally out.]
Think about it logically. One of the front line fighters should be the one to go down first, no? That's what we're for. We would've been in serious shit if you'd gotten knocked out.
But that's why you trust in the guys in the back to do their job. You acting out of line without at least warning us puts the whole squad in jeopardy.
[ Hector's language doesn't really line up with their video game environment... It's entirely likely he's gotten too immersed and forgotten where he is. ]
It's better you concentrate on staying alive than assuming someone's going to go down.

Will do!
[ And you told him not to follow your orders just a short while ago too, Hector...
While Fai will take this seriously once the battle starts, he stretches his arms and looks around at the other three. ]
Remember... it won't be the end of the world if we lose.
