[ Fandaniel has been keeping an eye on Hien as he works and he's actually glad to confirm that, yes, Hien does know what he's doing. So, when he asks that, he turns away from putting the sauce away and quirks an eyebrow at him. ]
If you want to save the livers, I can grill them up just for us. We'll have them with some of that nice sake I took from the hot springs.
no subject
[ Hien doubts that he'll get drunk from sake anyway, and this will be a nice treat. ]
I'll save them then.
[ He puts them aside and starts working on the second eel, using the same method as last time. Knife work... ]

With the sauce out of the way, Fandaniel will get the setup for grilling prepared, and then move on to cutting up vegetables for the tempura. There's quite a bit to do, though having someone else handle the eels has saved a lot of time.
It's quiet for a time as they work but, eventually, too quiet, and so Fandaniel speaks up. ]
Your roommate got back to me, by the way.
no subject
What did he say? He wouldn't tell me anything...
no subject
[ Just a test of his roommate's knowledge, nothing more. ]
Ah, though... you may want to advise him not to share your actual name.
no subject
But then Hien pauses with the eel preparations when Fandaniel mentions that last part. He resumes though, not much later on. ]
I guess that's expected. I never told him my in-game name.
no subject
Not really the name I anticipated. [ Chatty roomie, Hien, better talk to him. ] Have you considered changing it?
no subject
Hien shrugs. It's the usual response he gets regarding his name. ]
Can't change it even if I wanted to.
[ wobbles hand something something politics ]
no subject
Can you truly change nothing about your own life? Please. Stop acting so miserably helpless. You can change your name. In fact, you should! Moreso, you should quit this god-awful job!
no subject
[ ... ]
If I quit then who'd be able to handle all of you?
no subject
[ Why suffer so much for this job? Seriously? But... unpersoned? Could that even be done? How? ]
You should give yourself a name, anyway. Be Hien for real if you like.
[ He supposedly chose the username, so why not? Although, that isn't ultimately what Fandaniel has on his mind. If he's being honest about how things are for him... He brings out what he'll need for the ramen broth and begins fiddling with that. Keep busy, don't turn and look at Hien, even as he asks after those last few grumbled sentences, ]
If things are that bad for you, would you leave that world for another? Start a new life, given the chance?
cw suicidal ideation
[ But he shrugs, going back preparing eels. ]
... But in seriousness, no. I think I'm done.
no subject
Of course, you would be like that. [ There's no surprise, either. Really, it seems to fit. ] But you like it here, don't you? When you're in the game, being Hien?
no subject
[ Like how he could fight people all he wanted? And kill all he wanted? Without legal consequences. That's great, tbh. ]
no subject
[ Or else he'd be out of the guild already, not invited to this dinner, not allowed in this kitchen. He turns from his own work to stare ponderously at Hien a moment, considering... ]
What if you let someone else take over?
no subject
I can't.
[ That answer comes a little too fast for his liking, but he's still under plague in this thread, so. ]
I need to keep this job.
[ Yet he keeps toeing the line of being fired and whatnot... if this was a normal company, anyway. ]
no subject
Yes, well, if you ever change your mind, let me know.
[ He will not clarify what that even means. Instead, he adds as though the rest of this conversation never even happened, ]
Would you like to make some small appetizers for the party? You know, little things for people to snack on while they get settled.
no subject
[ He thought the conversation would have continued, but... it doesn't? Fandaniel isn't pushing him? Huh?? This guy continues to defy all expectations Hien usually has of people. ]
I'll make those little pie things. Coro... Colo... whatever. They're small, bite-sized pies.
[ Hien eventually finishes preparing the eels to be grilled. ]
How many do you think we'll need?
no subject
I would normally say twenty would be fine but Misteaks is attending, meaning you may want to make forty instead.
[ They can focus on little pies instead. ]
no subject
Forty, then. I'll make them very delicious, so I hope the follow up is just as equally delicious, if not more.
no subject
[ And so they cook (a lot, it's a lot of cooking, like damn). ]
