You'll never free us from that attachment. Uta will live on in our memories, our hearts, and the lives of the people she's touched outside of this, for eternity. Her love for others will persist, as will our love for her in kind.
You, however...will not.
[ Noé's eyes are wide. His gaze is sharp as he stares into Corbenik's, not faltering, not flinching. No longer is the gentle demeanor of a man who was willing to try and reason with her. In his mind, you don't hurt and threaten his friends or his comrades and see no repercussions for it.
Uta will not die. Oriade. Ganymede. Punisher. All of them must live on. Memoir will not fall.
Corbenik will.
Corbenik must.
Corbenik...
...
No...
The name that he calls out isn't hers. Instead, it's that of the person he wants to reach the most – ]
Don't let go, UTA!!!
[ (!!!Potential Spoilers for Honkai Impact 3 in the link!!!)
He runs towards Corbenik. He brings out his blades and slashes. He misses (1). Again, and again, and again. Miss after miss. Desperation is sinking in, but he won't stop.
He can be pulled aside for a heal, in theory, but he'll be damned if he loses sight of her now. ]
/2
because while corbenik was more than confident that she'd be able to do a repeat of just moments ago, ganymede's stun her which allows the attack to hit her. the blows chunking her down by a over a quarter of her health (vague numbers because i, naru, gave up on math). it's unfortunate that memoir's attacks all whiff because it would have been good for him had he landed a few hits on her while she was stunned like this considering what's about to happen. regardless of her stun and while she is unable to move, they're about to get their selves and autonomy robbed from them again as king of songs elegy automatically activates after their hits connect.
once again, corbenik had not been singing a song but it doesn't mean that they are free from its effect. they just have to wait. and as she slowly starts recover from her stun, the party will just be empty vessels waiting to be filled with something. they all are waiting for corbenik's next song and it'll come soon enough as she decides on the only song that could fit this situation. her voice cracks as she screams out the first lines of the song summoning tot musica to act, however, corbenik does not initially join her companion and instead orders it to individually attack them. they need to learn.
tot musica slams ( 15 ) its hand on the party one by one. they've clung so desperately to this "uta" and so she must cleanse them of that attachment. have them forget all about "uta". the result of each assault from tot musica result in memoir losing 9% of his hp, oria, even under the water, suffering 10% hp loss (before whatever debuff he has going on), punisher taking the full brunt of tot musica's wrath with a 12% hp loss, and ganymede barely faring better with a 11% hp loss.
in death she will free them. in death they will no longer have to worry about the injuries that they are suffering. this is the fragment that cubia promises them. these bodies are but a temporary vessel for the better one that awaits them. no matter what they think and what foolish hopes they hang onto.
and as part of her performance of the song's meaning as its core—a song that was written to contain all of the anger and darkness within hearts; their despair—corbenik launches her lance at each of them which summons wave after wave of additional damage. the following damage to totaling to another 8% hp loss for memoir, gg oria who is spared her lance but not the waves as those toss him around for 15% (before whatever debuffs haki decides), 11% of punisher's hp being chunked away, and ganymede losing 8% of his hp. ]

the amount of which restoring corbenik back to full health, but at the "cost" of freeing the others from the effect of king of songs elegy. whether they're going to swiftly try another assault onto her or not, at least this time corbenik won't have her lance raised. there's no need for her to go on the immediate offensive or to provoke them again; she has heard their hearts as they continue to struggle.
instead she just looks at the party to assess the damage that she had inflicted onto them, but the damage only came as a direct result of them attacking her. quietly taking in the words that ganymede and memoir both shouted at her before the assault. it's foolish, though, in how they keep clinging onto something that causes them so much pain. they keep rejecting letting go of their attachments. their hearts refusing to see that there is relief if they could just accept the end. ]
"Uta", "Uta", "Uta"...
[ she repeats softly and plainly. ]
Despite how fondly you speak of her, is she not the source of your pain — your injuries — now? The longer you cling to this idea and defy accepting what truth there is, the more pain you will suffer because of this "Uta".
But there doesn't have to be anymore pain. You don't have to hurt anymore.
no subject
That's rich... of you. [ He coughs. ] Hurting us first and then spewing bullshit about no more pain. And doing it all in Uta's name on top of everything...
/2
It's one he won't get off of, though. Not until it's over.
He manages to talk back. ]
She's not the one causing this pain. You are, because you took someone that was never yours. Even so, we will endure anything to get her back. Don't claim our suffering as your own, either.
no subject
For all this talk of Uta not being real, maybe this will get to her a little more. ]
Her real name is Unna, by the way.
[ And with that, even in his weakened state, Memoir uses his heal core for a party-wide heal. (I forgot the name I am on mobile sorry) ]
no subject
There is not enough to sum up the magnitude of it all washing over them, hits falling upon them like an avalanche. But still, they persist.
Ganymede has been through very painful events. He knows this, thanks to the efforts of his friends, of his loved ones. He can stand this pain, rising to his feet once again. ]
...The truth is the one we all just spoke.
Have you ever considered that you're just delusional?
[ Freed of a song that would restrain him, Ganymede performs a dance in defiance of these words.
Ganymede immediately casts Invoke Calamity on all party members.
Those who are at 50% or under will receive a rather helpful buff, for both physical and magical attack (starts at 1% bonus when someone reaches 50% HP, but increases the lower the HP, and scales to 100% if someone is at 1% HP.) Use it well, or don't, he figures this is the best opportunity to do so. ]
no subject
We're suffering because we love Uta. She's our friend. If you don't have pain, you can't value the moments you have without it. I'll decide whether it's her fault or Corbenik's fault, or whoever the fuck--it doesn't matter. We're here to get Uta back and she's worth every single pain because she's important to us.
[ He hacks out some water in his lungs. Ugh. That doesn't feel so good. ]
She's important to me. She's saved me with her songs once, so I'm here to pay that back in spades. You can say we don't have to be in any more pain, but you're the one willingly attacking us. I'm not here for salvation or rebirth or what the fuck ever.
I'm here to bring Uta back.
[ He queues up No Remorse (1), which absolutely misses putting a lightning rod right on Corbenik herself, but it falls down near her instead. Every time the lightning rod is struck, whether by ally or foe, it will release an AoE Thunder attack that deals damage against foe only. ]
So don't get in my way.
no subject
It's because you refuse to let go of of "Uta" that I've come to hurt you. Every lesson that this "Uta" has taught you has yet to teach me anything new. If I am delusional then it is only because of what I've learned from your hearts.
[ her voice mocking punisher and ganymede both but before she could continue the words from oriade and memoir come through her and she stops. well, what oriade says fully catches her attention, but upon hearing a particular name she freezes. she stops in every meaning of the word; her body goes ridged, her gaze unfixed on any of them in particular. it does not last very long and corbenik recovers fairly quickly enough though there is something different about her. a few of eyes close and the vines, threads, and piano wire that had kept her skin stitched together loosen in some places.
it isn't considerable by any means but something is becoming undone. ]
Unna? [ she repeats back sounding slightly confused. there's a moment of delight that comes across her face awkwardly as she recalls how oriade had been saved by one of her songs, but it falls just as soon as it comes and is replaced by more confusion. ] Unna's songs...?
[ corbenik's attitude will shift slightly as her eyes become less cold but there is still no sign of any kindness within them overall. tot musica remaining also inactive as she hesitates to act. there are no songs for it to respond to and no command that is giving it direction to act—all it does is provide corbenik a vantage point to ruminate over the name in conjunction of what she had been told.
and as she considers oriade's words while muttering "unna" softly to herself, a few of the "petals" go limp from behind corbenik. another number of eyes that make up her feathery-plant "wings" also find themselves closed as though they are looking away from something or refusing to see something. and if viewing them as though they were "wings" of a sort, then there would be no way that the remaining "feathers" of her "wings" would be able to provide her flight. ]
no subject
[ Oriade quietly breathes out. ]
Even for someone who struggles with genuine empathy, it came for my heart.
[ He can stand better due to Noe's earlier heal core now, from where Corbenik is. The petals go limp, the wires become loose, the eyes close... He holds his gun out, aiming straight for Corbenik. ]
So, Unna. Come back to us.
Come back home.
[ Oriade loads Vindictive (10, 8), which is a nonelemental skill that deals damage based on how much HP he lost throughout the entire battle. He lost a total of 98% HP so far, topped off with approximately 50% buff from Ganymede's Calamity skill, so naru can ballpark the damage. It's gonna hurt. ]
no subject
[ Ganymede says straight on out. ]
The impact of those songs have had ramifications. Nothing can take that away...
Their proof of existence, and thereby her own. People's feelings on them, and Uta's own feelings - their reach can't be denied.
And I won't let her existence be denied anymore!
[ Ganymede dances again, to increase the physical attack of all party members. After all, Invoke Calamity allows other buffs to stack.
Have fun :) ]

The somberness, the glint of hope that they can reach her -- it gets Memoir to calm down. He's still wanting to fight. Still livid at the entity that did this to her. But his anger is not at Unna, therefore, he will take a softer tone with her. ]
Unna...hang in there. We're coming to get you.
[ Noe activates We Need A Hostage (8, 2), which marks Corbenik as his hostage, and she will not be able to act for 4 turns (determined by 1d4 roll, but please adjust as needed!). Any other enemy on the field -- Tot Musica, presumably -- will be forced to spend their actions trying to rescue her. ]
We love you dearly.
no subject
He heard Memoir calling Uta by her real name which inspires Punisher to push himself up and sit. If this isn't going to work, he'll have to get up anyway to attack.
But it does something. As a result, Punisher gets back up as fast as he only can and replenishes his SP with some teas, just enough to get a little more than 1/3 SP back. That allows him to buff himself with Supreme King and thanks to the party wide heal, he sacrifices 10% HP to swing his Claymore and use Breaking The Sky (4, 1) (welp) directed at Corbenik. Maybe at least his words won't miss: ]
Remember what I told you once? [ Punisher asks when he gets close enough. ] Your songs give people strength, Unna.
[ Speaking of strength... listing his current buffs for ease.
> 50% buff to P. Attack, P. Defense, Speed, Accuracy from Supreme King
> 25% Ganymede's P. Attack buff
> 100% P. Attack from Breaking the Sky
I hate yjh (puts his picture on a wall that's already full of his pictures like that one meme) ]

haki voice: you figure it out.
naru voice: no.
needless to say, it's more than enough to drop her health to critically low levels. all of the health that she had stolen from the others and had slowly been restored by tot musica obliterated alongside of any buffered health that she accumulated. yet, the "petals" around her do not wilt as the ones before, nor do they close their eyes; the only thing that wilts here is corbenik as she slumps against tot musica. unconcerned and unresponsive to her injuries but still thinking of the words they had just told her—had been telling her.
as corbenik was not singing, tot musica did not recognize her; and as her voice is currently unable to carry a note to order her companion to do anything, this is how things remain. given the nature of hostage, would tot musica even be able to act in the first place? it's not something corbenik thinks about as she comes to terms with the damage that she has sustained and slowly tries to regain her bearings.
given how infrequently they have traded actual blows, it's easy to miss just how vulnerable corbenik is to actual attacks. though, maybe punisher could have noticed, this time, how easy it would have been to cut her. how, this time, his claymore tears through the vines, threads, and piano wires to expose what lay deeper inside of her. while there is no blood there is a glimpse of the color yellow. some straw.
but it doesn't matter much now, does it? they have successfully nuked corbenik and have officially rendered her incapable of countering any of them. is this the victory that they want? if they came to destroy her, then they are so close to achieving that. punisher is in the prime position to do so. yet, even while faced with this, corbenik doesn't show any fear. death is just one step before she is reborn again.
yet her mind still wanders. their words repeating themselves in her head. ]
no subject
their words confuse corbenik; perhaps it's from all of the damage that she has suffered after the number of times she had been data drained. it nearly takes the last bit of corbenik's strength to try to makes sense of their words.
macha had been tasked to understand love (unrequited) and through his experiences corbenik observed what knowledge that he was able to gather before they struck him down. the others have spoke about how much they were going to love macha and expressed such things, however, when macha was "no more"—there was no love for macha. they expressed nothing for hatred for macha.
tarvos, by contrast, was to collect information about what vengeful feelings rested within people's hearts as they were confronted by things that they envied. as she had said once before; it had been poetic that the two of them were fought together—a beautiful (twisted) kind of (toxic) love that met its inevitable end. most fruitful, of all, was how she was able to see just how that vengeful, hatred kept festering within their hearts.
feelings that game to a head when gorre came descended on them; he faced them and shared what he learned of their cruelty. hidden behind a multitude of doors that all revealed a different kind of cruelty to experience. and what did she learn from seeing how they conquered cruelty by slinging spells and skills—attacking him—as he shared what he knew? they had claimed it was because they wanted to "save" him much had they came to her wanting to "save" her by viciously attacking her before she did anything.
it's a shame that she could not learn more from the other phases as they approached the others. then again, corbenik had learned plenty already. humans were cruel. human love was conditional. humans were vengeful and hateful. humans lied and masked their true intent. humans did what they could to continue and cared for little else. those were the feelings that she saw held in their hearts.
these were the truths that corbenik had learned as she was tasked to learn why humans were so fixated on their end and where their beginning started. in her experiences she had confirmed, time and time again, that it was attachment that kept in a constant balance of wanting things to end and valuing their beginning. "uta" had known this too, but when unna (who was this?) died, "uta" remained even though "uta" was nothing without unna. (why is it familiar?) she continue to live despite her death. was this not the same of a rebirth?
or was that not the case? no.... ɴᴏ. 𝐍𝐎. ₦Ø. Ñ̴͉͉̃̽̐̄̓̏̓͘̚O̴̜̗͉̳̻̣̘̦̭̠̓̊̑̂̄͗̄͑͝. there is only one way for them to achieve the same new life that corbenik could offer them. they had to die just as unna (she doesn't know this name) did. in death they are cleansed. purified. it is the kindness that corbenik can grant them even with her body as broken and damaged as it was. ...or would be able to grant them if she was allowed to move, but even though she is a hostage, she could still sing, right? if she just could find her voice.
unfortunately, the only voice that corbenik is able to find so weak that it's barely audible (if punisher remained close to her then he would hear her the clearest) and breaks, but nevertheless corbenik starts to sing. ]
1/2
But that's why it hurts.
His teeth gnash against each other until he finally opens his mouth to speak: ]
Uta and Unna are one and the same.
[ He loads a skill into the queue. Any skill, but he doesn't unleash it just yet. ]
Despite her idolized status, she's just as human like the rest of us. She laughs when she's happy. She cries when she's sad. She gets frustrated when things don't go well. She protects who are dear to her. Despite all that, she hides her pain and tries to carry the burden of her "sins" all by herself.
But those were never her sins to bear, just like how Shanks and Gordon... their deaths were never her fault. I told her before... it's not her fault. She's loved by so many people, and it's not like she has them to do her bidding. Her songs are genuine, her feelings are always genuine. Despite the stigma around Cubia, she still stayed in that "faction". She probably sees the good in everyone, or at least tries to.
And that's why I hate Cubia, the incessant unbearable ten year old, because that thing stomped all over her goodwill. I can't forgive that. I will never forgive that.

Punisher.
[ His voice is cold. ]
Drive your sword through her throat.
[ So that Corbenik can no longer sing. So that she can stop keeping Uta captive like this. So that— ]
If you won't, I'll end it myself.
[ With the skill that he already loaded. He has it ready to go at any moment. ]
no subject
[ It's obvious that Oria's not kidding. He's raised his claymore already so they can see Uta again. ]
no subject
Do you know what kindness is...
[ Punisher repeats the words of the song quietly as the sharp blade of claymore sinks into her throat. Tightening the grip on the hilt, he pushes forward, making the weapon go deeper and eventually pierce through Corbenik's throat. ]
You showed us kindness, Unna. Let us do the same for you.
[ Punisher's not stepping back, not until he witnesses Corbenik's last moment. Not until Unna's back. ]
no subject
Memoir doesn't act. He doesn't say anything. Everything that needed to be said has been spoken by now.
He'll prepare himself to strike again, in the meantime. For now, he will simply observe what happens from here. ]
no subject
But it's going to be a relief, seeing Corbenik's claws be forced away from Uta's person. To see her return. ]
...You can't stop it.
We'll be bringing her right back to us.
[ Ganymede doesn't do much else right now, seeing no need to.
Finish her, Punisher. ]
