[He heard the rest loud and clear, but he's not crumbling under those words. He's not afraid. He's done with hiding away.
A deeper instinct shines through instead.]
This isn't what we joined up with him for! He's just using you now!
no subject
Everything I asked for before... I broke it all. I didn't know any better. She bled in my hands.
[A mumbled salad of ideas, words, that may not make sense to Leviathan but paint a clear enough picture for the one who stands unnamed.]
It's going to happen to you, too. It will. You'll bleed under my hands. Lily only promised me to keep you safe from CCCorp. Not from me.
no subject
Something about that line sparks a flame within Levi. He has no idea who "she" is, and no matter how much he tries to rack his brain, he can't come up with a name or context. But something screams at him how wrong that is.
The flame grows as Misteaks continues. By the time he finishes, Levi's reaching for him. Not to attack, but to grab hold of his sleeve and ground him.]
No I won't.
[His grip tightens as he searches for Misteaks's gaze, his own hard and determined.]
This isn't all you are. I'll prove it to you if you won't believe it yourself.
Lily doesn't get to use you as a puppet and then say all the blood is on your hands. That's not how it works.
[His eyes squeeze shut for a moment.]
...Thank you for trying to look out for me. But now it's time for me to step up and do the same for you. While I'm still me, I'll look for a way to free you from this.
no subject
[There's an odd quality to the question, surreal, the same childish openness as the redhead always carried.
He glances at his sleeve, seemingly unshaken, before glancing back to Leviathan.]
I'm jealous. Whoever you thought I was gets hope and anger from you. I think I see.
But you don't use my name.
1/2
[Wait.
"I felt her bones crack."
That's not...right. Right?]
no subject
[Moreover, what's this about him not using Misteaks's name?
His hand goes slack, sliding off of Misteaks's sleeve. His eyes are widened slightly, as though he's finally noticed it himself.]
Haven't I only ever known you as Mr_Misteaks?
[There it is again- the unpleasant sensation when he utters that name. Why does it feel so unfamiliar?]
no subject
[Simple and straightforward.]
My name is Tarvos.
Lily found me. He watched me tear it all apart. He let me wake up. I accepted it.
[A tilt of his head, slight, as his expression tightens, as he straightens up from the bridge to his full height above Leviathan. A subtle push. A testing.]
What makes you think I ever had control?
Do you know how angry I've become? Do you know what you could do, if you felt this way, too?
no subject
[Levi repeats, skeptical. While saying "Mr_Misteaks" aloud felt wrong, this just feels even worse.
Before he knows it, he's suddenly cast in the being now known as Tarvos's shadow.
He doesn't budge. He looks up, confused but refusing to be intimidated.]
I don't just think it. I know it. Just like I know this anger isn't you. You never used to be like this! [His voice cracks slightly, emotion seeping in.] You were...you were one of the most caring and compassionate people I'd ever met!
[Even when I was at my lowest, you told me you were proud of me.]
Lily didn't awaken this anger in you. He put it there! He did this!
no subject
It wasn't meant to be forever. I would have turned into this eventually. I know I would. Maybe I acted that way because I wanted to hide what I was becoming.
I despise myself for that.
[The emotion he hears doesn't seem to deter him. Sentiment. Sentiment. Burying deep, going nowhere. But still burying.]
Don't blame Lily.
My strength is here to help him now. No matter how aggressive I become. He'll take me.
We're going to make something new for those of us that have nothing left.
no subject
He's angry.]
I'll blame Lily all I want, because it's true.
[This is just sickening to hear. That frustration and self-loathing didn't come out of nowhere, Levi knows that. He knows Misteaks was struggling. But this just feels like exploitation. It's obvious that Lily's grip on Misteaks—on Tarvos—has become unbearably tight. It's twisted him in a way that Leviathan almost wonders if there's any hope of getting through to him like this.
He's going to keep trying until Tarvos stops him.]
So you're just going to give up and let Lily keep using you?! That's what's going to fulfill you?!
Open your eyes, Misteaks! You've sure got enough of them now! This isn't all you have going for you! This isn't what you deserve!
[Don't give up. That's what Misteaks would say to him. He's just returning the favor.]
no subject
Is it loss, that fuels this one's sudden flare? Is it indignation? Or maybe he simply does not like being told he is wrong. He doesn't know enough. Not yet. Not yet.]
Yes. It is.
I'm nothing but data. And data belongs in a world made for it. I have a job to do to make sure it's finished.
...Don't use that name. You're wasting your breath.
no subject
I'll keep using it until you finally hear me.
[He makes an attempt to return to Tarvos, still unarmed. But that might change, if Tarvos continues to be hostile.]
Why won't you believe me? Please, just let me try to help you!
no subject
His spear is withdrawn - something newer, heavier, not the bright white blade he's had on for the last few weeks.]
Your anger drips off you over something that's fake.
Are you going to find vengeance like this?? With a purposeless rage? Or are you just mad being told the truth?
no subject
Leviathan withdraws his sword in kind, still brandishing those moon and cross markings. Symbols of an unknown loss. Stagnation brought on by grief that no longer belongs to him.]
It would be better spent elsewhere. Arguing with you obviously isn't going to get either of us anywhere. You were always so stubborn with letting people in. Guess that part hasn't changed.
[But just like Tarvos, Leviathan is no longer interested in talking. He's done hearing this rhetoric.]
But I'm not gonna leave you alone until you understand how much I'm willing to go through to get you back. So pay attention.
[With that, the tip of his sword glints and he goes in for a slash.]
Razor's Edge!
no subject
With Leviathan in close range, Tarvos attempts the aquatic rush of Rue Break (5), a slow and heavy sort of blow to try and break his stance. It's swung without a word, dark eyes sharp and frown setting like stone. Watching.]
no subject
Sword Flash!
[A flurry of four slashes are sent Tarvos's way (12). A test to see how well he can deflect attacks in such quick succession.]
no subject
Growling slightly under his breath, Tarvos's wings spread, the eye pattern against the ends all seeming to glare as he continues to push right into the distance between them. His spear comes up from underneath with a backhanded grip all in the shoulders, Piercing Heaven attempting to get Leviathan airborne and, perhaps, give him enough distance to see if he'd bother to continue (7).
This boldness isn't the Leviathan he remembered. This bravery. Why did this stir, behind spirals of hatred and claws of jealousy... a spark that barely lights, a feeling of mournful pride?
It's not for him. It doesn't belong. And it makes him grip his weapon tighter when it doesn't go away.]
no subject
Ah--!!
[Try as he might to sidestep Tarvos's next assault, his footwork fails him and he catches that spear square in the chest (5). While his sturdy armor protects him from impalement, the sheer strength of Tarvos's swing sends him flying into the air as intended.
However, if Tarvos expects him to flee...well, he might want to look out for a fist coming straight at his face as Leviathan course corrects himself (18).]
no subject
It doesn't feel like skin. The force of knuckles against Tarvos's face cracks like crumbling stone, like the shell of an insect, audibly crunching.
The crack is thin and fine, in wake of the hit. But it runs nearly the full length of Tarvos's face, from chin to hairline, already splintering off slightly as the redhead's expression twists.
His free hand drops from his weapon to grab for and dig his fingers into Levi's dominant arm, attempting to wrench it up. (8) But he does not go any further, his grip tight and painful and his breath furious, but his body trembling underneath. He's pausing, hesitating, and it's only making himself more furious.
Why can't he just harm this one? Why does his chest ache?]
no subject
Caught up in his horrible realization, Tarvos easily grabs onto him, making him yelp in pain. He's able to hold off being yanked around (14), it still hurts and he can't manage to break himself out of Tarvos's grip.
His aggression is fading fast. Fear and worry try to claw their way out from the dark, forgotten corners of his mind. They're not for his own safety, though. He can feel that trembling. That pause weighs heavy.]
Misteaks...
[Don't go.]
1/2
With a snarl, Tarvos drops his weapon and grabs for the back of Levi's head, taking a handful of hair and yanking hard, practically spitting out the whisper pushed through his teeth.]
You said you'd have a spine.
The next time I see you, I won't hesitate to kill you. If you care so much that your anger is going to burn, then make sure you have more than a matchstick of fire, or you're NEVER going to match me.
...
Make your right choice. Make sure it's right.
2/2
The water is a rush of bubbles and movement, of limbs tangled. But Leviathan will find himself alone within seconds. It seems Tarvos has teleported and, for the time being, shown what little mercy he has left.]
no subject
He knew he wasn't strong enough. He knew, and yet he--
Before doubt can grab hold and trap him in its clutches once more, Tarvos grabs first. Leviathan cries out, gritting his teeth through the pain of that hold on his hair. He tries, desperately, to grip onto Tarvos's shoulders and rekindle that flame of his. But it's too late. It's sputtering, fizzling out...and Tarvos knows it.
"You said you'd have a spine."
Words that cut deep- deeper than Leviathan can truly understand. But he doesn't cower from them. He listens.
He understands.
He might not be strong enough now, but... He will be, when the time comes.
He winces. It hurts to move. But he pushes himself to look up and meet Tarvos's gaze in a way that seems like he's trying to look beyond Tarvos.]
I... I will.
Wait for me, okay?
[The next thing he knows, he's underwater, and Tarvos is gone.
He feels an odd sense of nostalgia as he effortlessly swims to safety. He'd...really been fond of swimming, hadn't he? When everything is said and done, maybe he'll get the opportunity to invite Misteaks to go swimming with him. Properly.
But he's got a long way to go before that can happen. It's time to get stronger.]
