[ Fandaniel will eventually find a small stone path across the lake that will take him to the tree. He better be careful, though, because the stones shift a bit whenever he puts too much of his weight on them.

Wouldn't want to fall in the water, right?

As he approaches the tree, he'll notice that the music grows ever so slightly louder. ]

[ Once he notices how wobbly the stones are, he takes greater care in crossing them, but he does get across, even if it takes a little longer than he would have wanted. Arriving on the tree's little island at the center of the lake, the music's volume going up so slightly...

That only makes him approach further, listening closely to see if it keeps getting louder the closer he draws, right until he's directly next to it. ]

[ His instinct is correct—the music grows louder, but only slightly. For someone who wasn't paying attention, it might have been imperceptible, but for someone like Fandaniel? It's noticeable.

The glow of the tree is just as soft and ethereal up close as it was far away, the trunk a white, pristine wood unmarred by time. The leaves, however, look especially unnatural. Rather than plant-like, the leaves almost look as if they're made of glass, reflecting the light from the hole in the top of the cave. ]

[ A very pretty tree that emits very pretty music. That's fair. It fits the area its in. Those leaves, however, catch his eye as they glisten in the light from far above. He knows he shouldn't touch anything but the thing that had harmed a player previously was a statue, wasn't it?

This is no statue.

It's just some plant.

So while he does struggle with the decision for all of ten seconds, he does, inevitably, reach up to try and pluck one of the glass-like leaves from the nearest branch. ]

[ It, in fact, just some plant.

However, the moment Fandaniel plucks the leaf from the tree branch, a tone rings loudly in his ears. Unlike the music, it's loud. So loud that it feels like it fills Fandaniel's entire head, to the point that he starts to feel a headache coming on. ]

[ A leaf, just one little leaf and it'll be fine... Only it isn't, is it? The leaf comes off in between the fingers he'd plucked it with and then the tone sounds, not unlike a shrine bell being rung right next to his head.

It startles him, causing him to jerk back a step and take the glass-like leaf with him. He raises a hand to his head as it begins to ache, grimacing as he does. ]

[ The ache continues, growing slightly worse by the moment, much in the same way the music had incrementally grown louder. It feels as if he has a migraine coming on.

The leaf in his hand feels strange, almost bending beneath his fingertips. Being parted from the tree seems to have an effect on it, however, as it starts to disappear, small strings of data floating into the air as the leaf practically unravels in his hands. ]

[ Fandaniel clutches his head with one hand, struggling to not cringe and squeeze his eyes shut against the growing pain as the leaf begins to unravel into... into data? Is this area unstable? Is that what's been causing the problems?

He'll let the rest of the leaf go as all of it unravels, staring in wonder at the data simply unfurling into the air before him. ]

...what is this?

[ Is this area unstable indeed! It's hard to know that for sure, as everything else around him seems to be fine... you know, minus the little irregularities in the lake or the cave formations. The light coming from up top seems as natural as ever, and the remaining bits of leaf in his hand feels just as real, too, until it finishes unraveling and disappears from his grasp.

Will he risk it and grab another, or is he done with this tree? ]

[ This tree is a literal headache but! While he won't pluck another leaf, since he must presume the same would happen, that it would unravel itself into data and drift away, he does turn to instead reach out and very gingerly place a fingertip against the trunk of the tree.

Is it the same? Loud, head-ache-inducing music? Will the tree itself unravel as well, fully removing it from existence? ]

[ The first thing he'll notice is that the tree is warm—the kind of warmth that one might associate with a computer becoming overheated.

But before Fandaniel can think on it more than that, he hears that same tone once again ringing in his ears as that headache immediately worsens.

As for the tree itself? Well, it seems to be just fine. ]

[ Okay, that answers that question. Time to stop touching mysterious trees. This time, Fandaniel does take a step back, although it's more of a stumble as he puts space between himself and the tree. ]

[ Removing himself from the tree thankfully guarantees that he won't hear that mysterious tone again. The tree stands as serene and ethereal as it had the moment they entered the Area.

Despite his oncoming migraine, as long as he doesn't disturb the tree again, the rest of Fandaniel's visit here should be fine. ]

[ Ugh, he's going to have to do something for his head but at least leaving the tree be keeps it from getting worse. Duly noted. He gives his pounding head a shake and turns to make his way back across the stepping stones.

Time to reconvene... ]
