[ Arrive at Mac Anu, where the welcome party was held, to find it...empty? A quick look on the forums shows a little edit to Hector's post:

So that's where he is.

In the center of the brightly illuminated nighttime city, Hector's set himself up for his little get together. But since he doesn't have any tables or plates or anything fancy like that, all the alcohol and food he bought from various vendors are just...strewn around the floor. The food is probably still good to eat, though. It's fine. Take what strikes your fancy!

Hector's wearing his outfit again. He lounges on the steps of that funky spinny thing in the center of town, and anyone who gets close enough to hear him will hear music coming from his mic. Give him a break. He's doing his best.

When enough people have gathered, he might actually get up and drag everyone into a drinking game.

I wanted to try your go-to, but... there's no reason I can't mix you a drink as well.

[ Hector can consider that Fai's gift to him, so it would work out perfectly. ]

I mean, I always grab a bottle of merlot when I can. That's not really exciting.

[ Hector considers the open bottle of wine in his hand—cheap merlot-flavored—and hands it to Fai. Enjoy! ]

But I do like a long island iced tea on special occasions.

Long island iced tea? I like those too, even if they're not as fruity as what I usually drink. [ He has a sip of that wine, enjoying the familiar taste of it on his tongue. ] They're refreshing, though.

[ Hector raises a brow and cracks a wry grin. ]

You do strike me as the fruity type.

What do you usually prefer to drink, then?

[ You know what? Valid and correct. Fai just grins. ]

Strawberry margarita. It's a nice color and it's sweet.

[ Hector hums. ]

I don't think I've had one of those.

[ A beat. ]

Maybe I'll try that after you mix me a long island iced tea.

[ He grins, arranging the proper drinks into his inventory. ]

When I first started studying the more advanced concepts of chemistry, I thought I'd look into something fun related to it too... which led to me finding out that mixing drinks involves a lot of chemistry.

[ Hector leans forward, getting into the conversation. Obviously, he can't see what Fai's doing in his inventory, but he can pretend like he's chilling at the bar with a good bartender. ]

Oh yeah? [ He studies his face for a moment. ] I wouldn't immediately put them together, but I can see it.

[ He rests his chin on his hand. ] So what's the most interesting you've learned, barkeep?

[ He's doing magic in there! Or something. ]

Let's see... Alcohol tends to have a higher boiling point than comparable hydrocarbons and ethers due to hydrogen bonding. Isn't that fascinating?

[ No. ]

[ Yes?? ]

Huh.

[ It's an interested "huh," at least. He doesn't know every word in that sentence, but he's rolling with it. ]

What does that mean for mixing, then?

It’s hard to freeze alcohol.

[ Hehe. He said a lot for something that didn’t amount to much, and that very fact clearly amuses him.

Fai holds out a Long Island ice tea. ]

Here you are, birthday boy!

[ There's a beat as Hector registers what Fai said at first, and what it means in laypeople terms. He bursts into laughter as he takes his drink—he may have majored in science in school, but a lot of that has left his mind at this point. ]

Thanks, Fai.

[ He gestures to the Floor Alcohol around them. ]

Join me. I don't want to be drinking alone.

[ He grins, glad that Hector at least appreciates his humor. Finally, someone who is going to revel in being obnoxious with him! ]

Don't worry, you won't be.

[ Fai plops his ass right down on the floor, reaching over and grabbing the closest bottle of alcohol. ]

Now... are you going to join me down here?

[ Hector is, if anything, pretty obnoxious! ]

Of course I am.

[ He plops down besides Fai on the ground, among the floor alcohol. He raises his glass to his friend (THEY'RE FRIENDS!!!). ]

Fai raises his own glass (well, bottle) to Hector. ]

Of course. I even pushed around a couple of things in my schedule so I could make it.

[ He gives Hector a wink. ]

[ Hector raises a brow as he takes a sip of his wine. ]

You're kidding. I really hope you didn't.

[ He grins, though. It's still flattering... ]

[ He grins, taking a sip of his own drink. ]

I had a tutoring session scheduled for around this time, but my student decided to move it up to earlier in the day. So really, I lucked out. I would have been sad I missed it, though.

[ Hector chuckles. ]

Fine. I'll take that. But I wouldn't have minded, though. Your job's more important than some internet guy's digital birthday party.

[ He appreciates it all the same, but he's not going to encourage bad habits on his behalf. ]

I would've shown up late, at the very least. Or sent you a kindly worded email.

[ He hates giving up opportunities to drink with people, but money is much more important. ]
