[ Arrive at Mac Anu, where the welcome party was held, to find it...empty? A quick look on the forums shows a little edit to Hector's post:

So that's where he is.

In the center of the brightly illuminated nighttime city, Hector's set himself up for his little get together. But since he doesn't have any tables or plates or anything fancy like that, all the alcohol and food he bought from various vendors are just...strewn around the floor. The food is probably still good to eat, though. It's fine. Take what strikes your fancy!

Hector's wearing his outfit again. He lounges on the steps of that funky spinny thing in the center of town, and anyone who gets close enough to hear him will hear music coming from his mic. Give him a break. He's doing his best.

When enough people have gathered, he might actually get up and drag everyone into a drinking game.

It's expensive to travel outside of Japan, and I don't see much reason to. Not when I have other delightful ways to ...interact with people overseas, like this.

Japan, huh? Guess you've got no other way to get your kicks. Japan seems like the kind of place where you'd be ostracized for acting like a clown in public.

But like any culture, there's caveats and intricacies that outsiders won't understand.

That's true. Still, I don't think I'd last long in Japan. I have this bad habit of speaking my mind.

You're probably right. [As a foreigner, at least.] You'd be shunned pretty quickly.

But don't think that there aren't Japanese who will not be very upfront when the situation allows it. [His head tilts, smiling as he adds,] Seniority can get you away with a lot, for example.

Seniority, huh? So what are you, a middle manager who gets away with abusing his employees?

Ha... Sure, if that's what you want to believe.

[Not that he believes for a minute Yael really suspects that...]

The alternative's taking total stabs in the dark until I land on the right answer. Then again, you're not the type to be honest about these things, are you?

[It's a bit of column A, a bit of column B. Matoba seems like the type to hide things, but so is Yael, so he's not going to butt his nose in like a hypocrite.]

Haven't you ever heard of stranger danger, old man? They say you should never give out your personal information to bad adults online.

Why, for all I know, you could try and steal me away! [And he flashes a terrible, gremlin smile! No, Yael; he's not going to give you shit. But he's fine with them both being cagey; he recognizes the need for mutual wariness.]

Yeah, yeah. That's advice meant for children. Is there something you're trying to say here?

[Manchild??? The thought of stealing someone like this guy away pulls a huff of laughter out of Yael.]

That's right. Haven't you decided I count among them? Then, I should follow that advice, don't you think?

[He doesn't blame him for laughing. But then, most people don't expect to be kidnapped, do they?]

If you want to know, I guess you'd have to try and find out.

[Harsh words aside, Yael's tone is anything but. He may not have the highest opinion of Matoba, but trading verbal blows with him is a good enough way to pass the time.]

Why don't you run along and play? That's what parties are for. Don't waste it pestering me.

[Yael can play the beleaguered old man all he likes, but Matoba clearly enjoys dogging him! He can come back for more punishment anytime he likes.]

[Alas, his cup is starting to run low... He frowns, glancing at it.] But I am playing right now. Oh well- try to enjoy yourself a little, old man.

[Come now, young man... Yael isn't a total curmudgeon, so he generously refills Matoba's glass before turning on his heel to leave.]
