11/14 - θ Dismal Worst Core
Who: THE PROPAGATION and players
What: Preservation.
Where: θ DISMAL WANING DESCENT???
When: ICly, Tuesday 11/14
Warnings: Violence, suicidal ideation, eye gore, sexual identity+reproductive topics, general mention of sexual content. Please see signups for more specific warnings.

[Once hidden away from the rest of the game by Cubia, all player characters are now able to gate-in to θ Dismal Waning Descent; only when they arrive, they'll find that the area name has changed to θ Dismal Worst Core.]
[The "Garden" as it was once called has been transformed from glitching meadow into a wide, cement basement with sparse, fluorescent lighting. A target ring has been crudely painted or chalked onto the floor in faded white, and more targets are carved into the cement of the surrounding walls, traditional kyuudo arrows somehow shot into them and sticking out at haphazard angles, some with broken, splintered shafts.]
[At the center of the bullseye on the ground is...]

Even though Hien still continues to bleed out like the others, it's nothing new. He's been bleeding out so much in the duration that he's been in this game. It's a miracle that he's still alive, plot armor not withstanding.
The same glitch happens as Hien inputs the code, healing Magus to 100% once more. ]
Pain isn't the only thing humans inflict upon one another. You've heard Tabibito. Humans inflict all sorts of things, and the reason why they attack you is because they want you to free Makoto. Free him from your clutches...
[ The realistic eye in the center of his own halo has a black sclera, black and white checkerboard patterned iris and it seems to be crying blood—it never quite reaches the ground as the image of the bloody tears fade as they fall.
If defeating Magus could free Matoba, he'd do it. It would probably free him from tbe program's influence. But he knows what happened to Uta. He doesn't want to chance that happening. He's not doing this for anybody's sake except for himself. ]
Give him back to me.

Mithrun recalls he had been addressed as Macha separately, and in retrospect still it feels strange. That was himself beneath Cubia, as much as he was himself beneath the professor. Don't take what little of him that remained left away.
Hien's protest, then, is both desperate, cumbersome, and purposeless. He hadn't thought much of 0koto and Hien's relationship, but recognizing it now in those distant words Hien once answered him with... he finds himself annoyed it's come to this.
0koto let his pride guide him before his sense when dealing with Cubia. And Hien... )
You're not going to reach him by whining.
( His blade is steady in his hand. He's fine with striking. He just doesn't want to waste it on an irrelevant target. )
Is this how you're hoping to go? Dying when his damage finally outpaces whatever you can do?

Even if Magus keeps attacking him, he'll heal himself despite the unremovable Bleed debuff. Their HP keeps ticking away--everyone's. Hien just needs to outlive the other three. Then it'll be fine. It'll be fine, right--
No, he can't let himself get distracted on what-ifs. Not of those kind. Even when he feels a nagging feeling in the back of his head. What was it...?
But for Matoba, who had shown him devotion and trust, Hien would go against the world. He would forsake everyone for him. ]
I'm certain that I can outlive you at the very least.
[ To echo Mithrun's words-- ]
So don't get in my way.

( As if he'd taken a page out of Fidchell's book of prophecy and knows the future with sureness: )
Magus will fall, and so will you, Skeith. Just as the rest of us have. Cubia will fail.
( None of them know the mechanism behind what allows a Phase to live or die. If 0koto is so important to Hien, Mithrun understands what makes him so panicked. He has seen this desperation in others, and he has felt it, too, toward Barrett: desperation, and fear of loss. Mithrun had always known love by these anxious words before he had ever come to realize there was a warmth to it, too.
What is the common factor in these saved Phases - trying to reach out while attacking them? It's hard to believe no one did that for Uta, the way people spoke of her. Love? Uta was loved, sure. Did it need to be romantic? That would just be silly.
The sample size is too small. They don't know.
A flame sheaths his sword once more - a tell-tale sign of Vax Makima, but he doesn't fix Hien with a gaze that suggests he's going to strike him. That honor goes to Magus. But Hien still has some of his attention. )
... The things that struck me as Macha were an effort at speech. If you know him so well, if you want to save him that badly, speak to his heart, and pray.

[ –am not Skeith. Not yet. Not yet. It feels like whatever is left of his existence is being denied and he hates that so much because he's desperately holding onto it.
But speaking to his heart? Matoba's?
...
He clicks his tongue and turns away from Mithrun. Onto the next round for Hien... ]

Give...? Hien. Take him back.
[ take. fight. claw it out of him with words and wounds. ]
Does it hurt to see him in pain, a corruption of his former self? You prolong this, providing us with more and more to whittle from him through your own cowardice. How much longer must you help Lily trap him in this cycle?
[ it hurts them to see 0koto in pain, too. in this fight, they have less to lose than hien, but they will not be losing anything at all. not a single piece. they refuse. ]
What you've healed is superficial, while you let everything important in him rot. Stop hesitating.

But he will remember that. ]
